Do I need to ground any pin while reading a M95C320W6 EEPROM?

I am trying to see where component protection starts from....different VIN?

Different systems, different protection. I asked for the Year, Make and Model.
Is there a mystery to that?

Component protection is not in the CAN (gateway) module, it's in the security that is built in with the controller software. The gateway is a data transfer module.

Sorry Agostino,I didnot realize... Audi A6 4F 2006, and I am upgrading from MMI High 2G to the newest 3Gbright now....so indeed the controller will be changed from the usual headbox to the new multimedia player.

Ok, I understand, you're dealing with fiber optics. Most of the time, it's controller coding and adding the rest of the harnesses that's are required. Adding another optic controller (device) needs the extra optic line with the harness and communications connections to the main bus.
Updating or upgrading is normally a swap, providing no extra parts are installed.
You need a schematic before this is attempted.

Yes I have already all the wiring diagrams and the comperisons wire to wire and pin to pin are done. I will start the upgrade soon.

I always believed the component protection kicks in when you plug a part with a different VIN recorded somewhere in its memory (EEPROM?). Audi partners here in Holland are neither very friendly nor efficient about removing component protection.

I suggest if you can find another A6 with those same installed controllers, get the scan because you may need the coding.

Some components, if they are used parts, may have an Immobilizer Identification or Component Identification, those will require authorization (adaptation) to be installed.

The gateway only connects and identifies the controllers that are programmed into the system.

I know it can be done, you need to research this deeply.
